Aggressive Alternative Metal
Mushroomhead is an amalgamation of various bands in the Cleveland, OH area. Formed in 1993 as a side project to their respective groups, the synthesis of various sounds and sensibilities. Garish stage costumes and an aggressive sound make for some heady Alternative Metal. Unlike other somewhat similar bands such as Korn or Slipknot, Mushroomhead doesn’t suck. This tidbit is a unique piece. The song 13 at the end of the album XIII is a hidden track. Starting out with an odd medley of toddler noises and soft ethereal music overlayed on the sounds of a scratchy LP, at about the 5:28 mark, the song segues into a cover of Seal’s “Crazy.” The Youtube author of this particular track combined the music with The Great Train Robbery (1903), the first narrative silent film. The Great Train Robbery, by the way, was produced by Thomas Edison with Edison Company employee Edwin Porter directing and filming. It was a brilliant piece of cinema with some classic themes and techniques that were propagated throughout future film ventures. Now in public domain, the Library of Congress owns the original negatives and excellent quality prints still can be made from them. Learn more.
