Angela Bowie Redux: Wonder Woman, all of us are depending on you!

Angela Bowie screen tests for Wonder Woman role

Woman Woman played by Lynda CarterIn doing our doctoral-level research for the previous post on the Black Widow-Daredevil TV show that never came to fruition, we learned that Angela Bowie, the catalyst for the doomed Black Widow program and the lead as the  character, also auditioned for Wonder Woman in an early iteration of a live-action TV show. Obviously, the famous serialized TV show that ran for five seasons in 1975-1979was headlined by Lynda Carter, but Angie’s audition was for a stand-alone TV movie that was released one year before the Lynda’s “The New Adventures of Wonder Woman.”

Wonder Woman (1974 TV Show)Here’s a piece of pie for you curious types: Angie’s failed audition was for a role that ended up being played by Cathy Lee Crosby. Cathy Lee is  a veteran actor and successful tennis player. We’re not sure why Cathy Lee wore the boring jump suit for the one-off show but it’s no surprise that Lynda Carter’s turn at the helm generated a lot more excitement. Angie’s outfit was similar to Lynda’s but she had even less muscle tone and would not have been credible at all in the part. Besides Lynda’s boobs did most of the talking for the Amazonian bombshell and Angie had pretty much nothing going on there.

Here’s another piece of pie: Cathy Lee is not to be confused with Kathryn “Kathy” Crosby, wife of the late child abuser, Bing Crosby, who, incidentally, did an infamous rendition of The Little Drummer Boy with … hey, who now … David Bowie! And there is another Comics A-Go-Go! “connect-the-dots” moment for you.

As for Angela, can you imagine a heroin super-heroine?

By the by, we don’t remember where a lot of these images came from, but we do recall one person that had a large gallery asking that we give credit for re-published pictures. If you are that person, let us know and we’ll make note in this post.

We like comics. And we like music. And we like movies. Pop culture is our game! But we also have a serious side. Current events, history, and politics are a part of the Comics A-Go-Go experience and we hope you find interesting things to read and look at while you traverse our website pages.
