Comic artist, Dave DeVries, contributed some fantastic paintings to Fleer/Marvel trading card releases in the early to mid ’90s. This closeup of Spider-man’s face is one of our favorites. It’s an oversize Fleer UltraPrint promo (about the size of a comic book backing board) that we picked up at the San Diego Comic-Con and it’s signed. So, we’re sharing the love.
Dave has an über cool book that he released some time ago (and that we are just discovering since we just looked up some information on him for this post). The concept is intriguing: what would a child’s drawing of a monster look like if it was fleshed out with dimension and color? Dave has taken 48 drawings by children and printed each of them on a page with his realistic rendition on the facing page. Take a look at these wonderful examples of The Monster Engine and then go to his website for more.
