This was a cool little project. The animation design shop Digital Banana Studios put together a short with The Rocketeer, Dave Stevens’ wonderful creation. Dave was a self-taught artist that did quite a bit of comic art early in his career before segueing into “good girl” illustrations. Sadly, Dave passed away from leukemia in 2008.
The animated format of the Digital Banana short is similar to that of Pixar. Take a look. Hope you like it.
The Rocketeer was made into a movie, if you don’t know or recall. It doesn’t matter what the critics say – it was a fun film and held pretty well to the more innocent parts of the story given that it was a Disney film. Yes, it was watery at times, but it was much more enjoyable than critics credited it. It’s also in our Trading Post list. Congratulations on your 20th Anniversary, Rocketeer. Sky on!
Remember WordPerfect’s DrawPerfect? No? Well, it was a very basic graphics program that came out in the early 1990’s. It was even more basic than Microsoft Paint and it ran on floppies in the DOS platform. And it was something Barney messed around with a lot to create the following two illustrations of a favorite comic book and movie characters. Forgetting the primitive nature of Barney’s supposed artistic capabilities, we are actually impressed at the renditions given the crude little tool with which they were created.
